NEW ORLEANS (January 22, 2018) – District representatives from each of Little League’s nine regions were recently honoured for their dedicated service to the Little League program during the Volunteer Recognition Breakfast at the Little League International Congress in New Orleans on January 22. Among those recipients was Steve Bagnell (Ontario District 1) who was presented with the Little League International Meritorious Service Award for his dedication and service as a Little League District Administrator. Mr. Bagnell was presented with the Little League International Meritorious Service Award in New Orleans on January 22. Mr. Bagnell has served as a D.A. since 2016 and currently serves as the Divisional Director on the Little League Canada Board of Directors. Along with his responsibilities as a D.A., Mr. Bagnell has served as the League President for Stoney Creek Optimist Little League. “On behalf of Little League Baseball and Softball, I would like to congratulate Steve for his time, dedication, and passion for the Little League program,” said Hugh E. Tanner, Little League International Board of Directors Chairman. “District Administrators are the highest level of volunteers that we have in the Little League organization and without their continuous support and guidance to the leagues within their districts, the Little League experience would not be possible. We truly appreciate all the time and effort Steve has given to all of those within his district as well as to the Little League organization as a whole.” Prior to Congress, each of Little League’s nine Regional Directors (five U.S. and four International) were given the opportunity to nominate one District Administrator (D.A.) and one Assistant District Administrator (A.D.A.) from their respective region for this award. The selected D.A.s are presented with the Little League International Meritorious Service Award while the A.D.A.s are presented with the Assistant District Administrator Little League International Commendation. Both awards are only presented every four years at the Little League International Congress. More than a thousand Little League volunteers from around the globe attend the Little League International Congress, held once every four years. Nearly 450 of those attending are volunteer District Administrators, or delegates, who serve as liaisons between the local leagues and Little League International. District Administrators are elected by their constituent leagues to provide support, and to represent their interests as delegates to the International Congress. The primary purpose of the Congress is to amend rules and regulations. The delegates, and their assistant district administrators, meet in round table discussions, making any necessary changes in the proposed amendments, then vote on the changes on the final day of the Congress. A two-thirds vote is required for passage. Those amendments receiving the necessary vote are then presented to the International Board of Directors for final approval. About Little League® Founded in 1939, Little League® Baseball and Softball is the world’s largest organized youth sports program, with nearly 2.4 million players and one million adult volunteers in every U.S. state and more than 80 other countries.
